Duchenne Heroes editie 2008 heeft 1 miljoen euro opgebracht. Dit heuglijke nieuws werd bekend gemaakt tijdens de reunie van Duchenne Heroes op zaterdag 22 november in de Heinekenbrouwerij in Houten. Tijdens de reunie keken de deelnemers, vrijwilligers en organisatie terug op een geslaagde tocht die door de deelnemers werd gewaardeerd met een 8.4. Duchenne Heroes is de mountainbiketocht waarbij in zeven dagen zevenhonderd kilometer wordt afgelegd door vier landen. De tocht wordt verreden om geld in te zamelen voor onderzoek naar de spierziekte van Duchenne.

Martin Fickweiler en Niels van Veen reizen begin januari af naar Argentinië om daar de Cerro Torre te beklimmen. Deze markante berg ligt in het Parque National Los Glaciares, Patagonia. De route die zij daarbij op het oog hebben heet de Compressor Route (VI 5.10 A2, 900m). Niels en Martin keren medio februari, hopelijk na een geslaagde beklimming, weer in ons land terug.

Het aantal outdoor-merken dat haar producten presenteert op xhike.com groeit gestaag. Daarnaast is het aantal bezoekers in een jaar tijd meer dan verdubbeld. Het aantal bezoekers is vooral hard gaan groeien na de face lift en uitbreidingen die xhike.com afgelopen zomer heeft doorgevoerd. Xhike.com is nog overzichtelijker geworden. In één oogopslag is het volledige productaanbod te zien en binnen enkele muisklikken heeft de bezoeker toegang tot uitgebreide product-, prijsinformatie en verkooppunten. Ook kunnen producten op eenvoudige wijze met elkaar vergeleken worden. De vernieuwde navigatie is gebruiksvriendelijker geworden. De komende tijd zal hier nog meer aandacht aan worden besteed.

Op de Roc du Vent hangt je leven aan een staalkabel. Deze via ferrata in de schaduw van de Mont Blanc doet sommigen sidderen van angst en adrenaline. De via ferrata van de Roc du Vent (letterlijk: ‘Rots van de Wind’) loopt over de berg aan de noordoostelijke oever van het Lac de Roselend.

Beste Leden, Komende jaarvergadering zal Rob Postma, momenteel penningmeester, stoppen als bestuurslid. Hoewel de taken, op de voorzitter na, door de bestuursleden worden verdeeld is het nu al duidelijk dat het Bestuur op zoek moet naar een bestuurslid die de taak van penningmeester op zich wil nemen. Vandaar een dringende oproep om je beschikbaar te stellen voor deze post in het bestuur. Wat betreft tijdsinvestering moet er gerekend worden op ongeveer 60 uren op jaarbasis. Met pieken bij het innen van de contributies en het voorbereiden van de jaarvergadering. There are many undocumented caves in the area, and access to local ranches has been arranged to visit these. EspeleoCoahuila 2008 will be held at Balneario La Cascada, just to the south of town. We will camp by the lovely waterfall and pools, with security and showers provided at the campground. The conferences will be held in the adjacent Casa de la Cultura (above left). There are two caves at the cascada, one of which (above right) has a watercrawl that continues and is said to be home to a crocodile.
